Longcol
Never had it but would try it. Sounds like the ultimate free range meat, one minute bambi is enjoying life in the woods then BANG ! Before he knows it, bits of him are on my plate with a medley of seasonal vegetables. And the environment gets a break from deer numbers too. Venison, like all red meat, needs to be hung for a few days before eating

El Cid
How do you think we should address this 'overpopulation'? How about making the entire population eat unhealthy food and stop them from getting healthy exercise?
MrSmith
The world population is on the up, but we can't preach to anybody about population control because our own is booming. I would like to see a brave politician to start pushing a population control agenda both at home and globally. I agree, we need to lead by example and find a better why that perpetual expansion, surely we can find a way to survive and be prosperous without the need to constantly increase our population. ---------- Post added 10-03-2013 at 19:01 ---------- Mr Smith, we were having the very same discussion at home last night when we heard about the cull. We love to control other populations, but never look a little bit closer to home. And no, of course im not advocating culling humans, im advocating a serious discussion on the over population on the planet and its resources and how we could control that. Politicians are too short sighted so won't address the problem; they are only interested in winning the next election.
Bonzo77
Why is it that our species controls and manages all other life forms on the planet and yet when it comes to human overpopulation, the taboo continues, as politicians, those with the actual power are too gutless to address it? The story would still sound right if deer was removed and human inserted. Humans have made Earth their own. We have the power to control and change our surroundings. Flip the equation on it's head and think of all the animals that we save. Anyway, more cheap venison coming our way......what's not to like?! ---------- Post added 10-03-2013 at 19:59 ---------- surely we can find a way to survive and be prosperous without the need to constantly increase our population Surely we can find a way to do both?? The world is a big place, there's plenty of room for more people, we need to spread out more!
MrSmith
Humans have made Earth their own. We have the power to control and change our surroundings. Unfortunately that change isn't always better. Flip the equation on it's head and think of all the animals that we save. We occasionally save other species just before we make them extinct. Surely we can find a way to do both?? The world is a big place, there's plenty of room for more people, we need to spread out more! We could do has the deer are doing and spread out to the detriment of other species and our selves. It just seems a bit odd that we are about to cull deer to save plants and birds whilst we continue to expand our population to the detriment of other species. gnvqsos
Given the absence of a predator, now wolves etc have been extinguished, some culling makes sense.
MrSmith
Given the absence of a predator, now wolves etc have been extinguished, some culling makes sense. Why does it make sense to limit the number of deer but not the number of humans?
gnvqsos
Why does it make sense to limit the number of deer but not the number of humans? Are the two mutually exclusive policies?
muddycoffee
I don't believe the Human population explosion Myth. This planet has vast areas of perfectly habitable land, but human politics dictates that all the money and resources are spent mainly in big cities. Have you seen the size of Texas, or Kazakhstan which is larger than western Europe but only 16 million population ? Politicians and pressure groups constantly peddle this tired story to further their own ends.
