'Britain is being raped by high taxes' says luvvie Ray Winstone

Recommended Posts

The bankers only cost the UK taxpayer money because the government bailed them out. Private businesses cannot by their very nature cost the public anything, only the public sector can do that.

Even those businesses that go bankrupt? Do they not cost the public anything?

I pay 30% and that is far too high. No-one should be paying more than 9% tax, and it should be a flat rate.

There isn't a 30% tax rate.

And what services do you expect the government to provide if 9% was the top rate?

It's ironic that he does the ads for Bet365, the only online betting company that not only pays taxes but also employs people in this country.

Yes very ironic for a UK taxpayer to advertise a company paying UK tax and employing UK people.

Millionaires can pay really low rates on their millions, yet we pay a set rate on our PAYE income and 70% on our fuel; and a very high rate on our cigs n alcohol.

It works out that those earning less pay a higher percentage of tax than the rich. Perhaps Ray was just doing it for publicity?

Given that his recent film "Run for Your Wife" completely bombed, I think he maybe trying to raise his profile a bit. Though his choice of words was ill advised.

Still he's such a versatile actor, he could get work anywhere :suspect:

Have you noticed that it’s the same people that complain about Thatcher selling national industries that now complain about the government nationalising banks.

We didn’t give the banks money, we bought them.

RBS will receive £20 billion of capital from the Government - leaving taxpayers holding a 63 per cent stake in the company.

A further £17 billion is to be injected into the merged HBOS-Lloyds TSB, meaning 41 per cent of the new "superbank" will effectively be owned by the public.

Before the merger, taxpayers will own around 58 per cent of HBOS after the Treasury bought shares worth £8.5 billion and preference shares worth £3 billion and 30 per cent of Lloyds TSB after buying shares worth £4.5 billion and preference shares worth £1bn.

Gordon Brown said the "unprecedented but essential" move was "something that matters for every family and business in Britain."

The difference being Thatcher sold failing businesses and Brown bought failing businesses.

This government will have implemented (as things currently stand) 299 tax rises before the end of this parliament.

The Tories are the now party of high taxes for the ordinary man in the street. For the big earners like Ray Winstone they should be quids in with the cut in the top rate of tax. What the hell is he moaning about?

Ray Winstone complained on TalkSh**e last night that people like him are being 'raped' by high taxes. He also threatened to leave the country as a result.

I really hope the Governement are listening. This country can ill afford to lose an 'actor' of his calibre.

Mind you his choice of words have ensured that he will get more publicity that his recent flop 'Run For Your Wife', which reportedly netted just £747 at the box office on its opening weekend

He's right though. I agree that wealthier people should be taxed more, but I do think they are being targeted and being used a scape goats.

Why should wealthy people pay so much more tax? They've worked just as hard, if not harder to earn their money.

And it's all well and good saying comments like "bye, bye Ray" etc, but if everyone follows suit, we will have a country full of poor people who rely on benefit top ups!

That would be the private businesses selling toilet seats for £150 to public sector "companies".
