flat-budger
I've had a couple of quotes regarding re-piping my central heating. I've got concrete floors downstairs, plumber A has suggested cutting into the concrete and putting the pipes in there, covering it with sand (I think) to protect it. Plumber B has said it's better boxed in and running along the skirting. he said it'd lose heat if it was in the concrete. Who is correct? Any help appreciated Thanks
speleo1
yes go with plumber b and have them boxed in ---------- Post added 13-03-2013 at 00:35 ---------- why are you having them re piped, are you having a new central heating system fitted
Halibut
I like A better really. It's bound to lose a bit of heat anyway, just as nice to lose into the floor where it'll very gently heat the room from the ground up - bare feet might be nice with this option - as to have it boxed and lose it to the air. gnvqsos
Why not cover the pipes with some insulating material before burying in floor?Whatever you do protect the copper as concrete is corrosive and water will escape eventually.
FORE
I thought as above, insulate. Find out if they can be plastic pipes for most of distance. Tidier, less to paint, no joiner required
JBradleybz
I would go skirting then box in, if there done right and cliped well you can box in very easy but upto you cheers jon at JB Heating Services.
speleo1
putting it into the floor wont give them much heat from there, its not underfloor heating there having, just a few pipe runs
flat-budger
speleo - yes im having a new radiator system so far 2 people have said box it in, 3 have said concrete. If copper pipes are done right, will there be a risk of them corroding in the concrete? I mean, if they're insulated properly?
speleo1
i suppose if they are properly insulated, will they use copper or plastic pipes were do your pipe run now
