CorkerSWFC
I have been watching a blog for the last couple of day's and it really has opened my eyes up to how bad the gambling situation is in Britain. On average there are 8 bookies within a few hundred yards of each other these day's, are there any need for this many seeing as generally you only see 3 or 4 people in these betting shops not to mention most people who do frequent these establishments go in for the FOTB (Fixed odds betting terminals) From what I have seen these machines have ruined peoples lives, you have 4 in each shop, which equates to roughly 32 machines, is there any need for this many betting terminals and do the government realise the problem they have caused by relaxing the gambling laws... For anyone who's interested here is the video diary I have watched, very interesting stuff indeed. Oh and over 1 billion was thrown through Yorkshire and the humbers betting terminals last year for anyone who doesn't think there's a problem :o:o:o:o:o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEFWPDvEaTM
andygardener
I've been in to put a footy acca on and seen people drop a grand in ten minutes on roulette on these machines. I suppose the argument in favour is it does create local jobs and there is a tiny degree of supervision in a lbo whereas if people play the same games online there is no supervision and they could end up gambling while drunk etc and losing even more. If you watch the blog, you will see how much the bookmakers entice there customers into playing the machines, free cups of tea, free tournaments, free spins, free bet's, it's a disgrace really. While business's are closing down right left and centre, they are getting replaced by bookmakers, payday loan shops and pawn shops. Online gambling is also really bad although there are blocks you can put in place on your system to stop you from accessing online gambling. The guy self excluded himself from every bookies in Britain his photo got sent to every bookies where they put it in a book of self excluders, he tried it out and didn't get stopped in any of them... geared
No-ones forcing people into these places or forcing them to play the games. You don't remove alcohol from shop shelves because people become addicted.

sedith
Along with the proliferation of shops like Cash Converters and Ramsdens etc, where you can convert your possessions into heroin. Sign of the times I'm afraid. These sort of establishments, along with Bookmakers are of no asset to the community.
adamf
Planning law should be changed to allow the people who live in an area to say no to betting shops and other unsavoury businesses that they don't want in their neighbourhoods.
