Bookmakers/Betting shops taking over our High streets

They say the FOBT'S (Roulette Machines) are the crack cocaine of the gambling world...

Along with the proliferation of shops like Cash Converters and Ramsdens etc, where you can convert your possessions into heroin. Sign of the times I'm afraid. These sort of establishments, along with Bookmakers are of no asset to the community.

There are rumours bookies and the payday loan companies are linked, hence why you see a lot of them close to betting shops...

Saying that it's not hard to be close to a betting shop these day's...

I have been watching a blog for the last couple of day's and it really has opened my eyes up to how bad the gambling situation is in Britain.

On average there are 8 bookies within a few hundred yards of each other these day's, are there any need for this many seeing as generally you only see 3 or 4 people in these betting shops not to mention most people who do frequent these establishments go in for the FOTB (Fixed odds betting terminals)

From what I have seen these machines have ruined peoples lives, you have 4 in each shop, which equates to roughly 32 machines, is there any need for this many betting terminals and do the government realise the problem they have caused by relaxing the gambling laws...

For anyone who's interested here is the video diary I have watched, very interesting stuff indeed.

Oh and over 1 billion was thrown through Yorkshire and the humbers betting terminals last year for anyone who doesn't think there's a problem :o:o:o:o:o:o

If people are not in betting shops they are / would be gambling online. The only way to cut down on gambling is to blanket ban the whole thing.

One blocker on your pc/laptop at home and you cannot access any gambling websites, yet you can self exclude from every bookmakers in Britain but still be able to walk in and spend a thousand pound without any of the staff batting an eyelid...

Bookies are far worse than online betting these day's in my opinion, watch the you tube video diary and you will get exactly what I mean...

Planning law should be changed to allow the people who live in an area to say no to betting shops and other unsavoury businesses that they don't want in their neighbourhoods.

If people didn't use them they wouldn't be their :)

These shops are blighting our city streets and potentially ruining lives. If the council can't close them, they should be taxed to oblivion.

I agree with that, the temptation is too much for some people, the problem is too many people looking for get rich quick, and the only ones getting rich quick are the ones putting those schemes out their.

The High Street misery machines: Betting shops make £1billion a year from picking the pockets of the poor

I hate seeing them now, they seem to be everywhere, casinos popping up everywhere now aswell we shouldn't have any of this, it just shows how dulled down people have become that we are quickly turning into a money making machine for the super rich, just like in America.

No doubt they'll be off when their cheap rates run out, especially if they're independant bookies. The chains might be different though. It's nearly as bad as having a business disolved every year or two to avoid paying much tax and filing accounts, then registering a new business with a similar name .... nobody does that, do they?
