Bookmakers/Betting shops taking over our High streets

Great news for the punters. The greater the competition, the better the odds.

All taxes levied on these are paid voluntarily.

What about free health service for people who have been using these things, is that were the buck is then ???

If you watch the blog, you will see how much the bookmakers entice there customers into playing the machines, free cups of tea, free tournaments, free spins, free bet's, it's a disgrace really.

While business's are closing down right left and centre, they are getting replaced by bookmakers, payday loan shops and pawn shops.

Online gambling is also really bad although there are blocks you can put in place on your system to stop you from accessing online gambling.

The guy self excluded himself from every bookies in Britain his photo got sent to every bookies where they put it in a book of self excluders, he tried it out and didn't get stopped in any of them...

Hills who I use for my Tuesday and Saturday footy acca have end of month promotions on the machines where you get £50 virtual cash to play their chosen game for 3 minutes and whoever makes the most in that shop gets £50. I've actually won a couple of these but the stand out thing for me is just how easy it is to do in fifty notes in well under 3 minutes on these machines. The vast majority of times I've entered I had zero left in about 2 minutes...if they're trying to entice punters this way then hopefully it's counterproductive!

That's a separate issue Corks but for what it's worth I don't think that drinkers and smokers should be penalised further by withholding free treatment. After all they've paid more tax than non-drinkers and non-smokers on the same wages.

If you have to self exclude yourself from betting sites it's probably a sign that you have a serious problem and no internet blocker is going to help with that.

I have never been in a betting shop or on line betting site in my life and never use fruit machines,my dad used to say "you never see a poor bookie".

Roulette machines are bad, but people have to take responsibility for themselves. Nobody forces people to put money in. Some people have control over their gambling, don't spend too much & just use it as a bit of entertainment.

If you ban roulette, what's next? Are they really much worse than bandits? Worse than a real roulette table in a casino? Worse than online casinos? Worse than betting on sports? Keno? Bingo? Scratch cards?

If somebody wants to gamble all their money away they'll find a way to do it. Better that it's at a legally controlled establishment rather than some illegal bookie/loanshark.

In that case do you not think there should be more help for people suffering from this like there is Alcoholism, Drug addiction etc...

There is only one NHS problem gambling clinic in the whole of Britain, while there are a reported half a million problem gamblers in the UK ???

I do, There should be more help for any kind of addicts. Drugs, alcohol and gambling addictions.

But that's beside the point. The bottom line is It's not the bookies responsibility to provide rehabilitation for addictive personalities or to ban gambling, that's the tax payer and the governments call.

Gambled for years on and off but never had a problem with it. Never bet the rent! but I know some people who would.

Banning betting shops won't help them.

So we need smokers, gamblers and alcoholics then to keep the economy running OK ???

Do you know how much money is brought in by gambling, smoking and alcohol sales?

Do you know how many people are employed across the country because of those three things?

If you can think of a simple way to employ those people and bring in the billions of pounds in tax revenue I'd be happy to hear it.
