Cyclone
Does an LCD TV even have oscillators? There's no electron beam to direct after all, it's all direct circuitry with a back light and lcd pixels that are switched on or not.

The local oscillator isn't to drive the tube/screen it's to decode the radio signal - you would have a LO at 10Mhz and 70Mhz or so to superhet against the incoming UHF signal, you would have one about about 3.6Mhz for the colourburst to remove that information. Sid Umpley
this threat has changed a little. it seems its now a discussion about how to avoid going to court rather than the simper question of payment of not. i am surprised at the low morality of so many people. really surprised. So anyone with cable or sky won't need one... Does a modern TV power up it's receiver when it's displaying an HDMI signal?
bladesman123
There is a simple solution to this, those who think you don't have to pay TV licence carry on not paying it, and those who think you have to pay it, keep paying it, I know which side I'm on and I shall continue as I am. JFKvsNixon
For commercial TV, the customers rule --- and those are the advertisers. We the viewers are the merchandise, and the programmes are the bait. Public TV is necessary to balance that in a civilised society. This is the point that is missed by many. The goal of commercial television is to make money by selling advertising space.

There's plenty of advertising on the beeb..it's just advertising the beeb though..

But the whole point of the Beeb isn't to broadcast that advertising, it's remit is to broadcast programs.
syne
That isn't all that's been said at all is it. The false information in bold is what's been said, and for which no evidence has been provided. If pressed far enough then he'll come up with some "freeman on the land" defence where he claims that by not accepting the jurisdiction of a court they won't be able to punish you. It's nonsense. He may also try to make a distinction between statute and act of parliament, this will just be nonsense as well. wow you out did yourself with that one. I know your a very particular person when it comes to facts and posting and nitpicking when people are wrong, (I like to think of you as Jeremy Paxman ) However, It wasn't false information, there is no LAW regarding tv licence if there is I would like to see it, perhaps you could find it? why is it nonsense? there is quite a distinction between acts and laws. He can claim that he does not fall within the jusdiction of certian courts. A human being is not to be ordered around by a person (which most courts are as they are corporations) it is an inalienable right to be free and that is not nonsense. also what evidence does he need to provide? how could he?
