scousemouse
Re the swimming pool at Carterknowl school. I went there as did my children. All children saved newspapers for recycling to help towards the cost of the pool. It was just a learner pool no deep end. My children were taught to swim and went on to become excellant swimmers.. I was speaking to the present head recently and it seems the pool is no longer. I was told I was welcome to go round the school as see how much it has changed since my time there in the 50's!! Mr Pears was head(Pee-ars) was head then, followed by Miss Booth, followed by Miss Clareborough, then Mr Guest, lost touch after that, my children then left to go to Abbeydale Grange. 1heckofaguy
I remember the library on Barnsley road that had that amazing painted mural on the staircase walls and that circular wooden kids play thing. I remember buying an "elephants foot" from that Fletchers van and also buying sweets from "Alf" when they came down deerlands avenue.
