proops2000
At the bottom of Norfolk Park road is Knowle house, what did it used to be called? I remember in the 80s a big house with turrets there, not sure if it was a private residence or gentleman's club, does any one know?
me-and-pippo
Knowle house has always been, and still is known by that name, are you referring to Queens Tower on Park Grange Road ? It was a private sports club before it's conversion to apartments.
gregnig
I worked at Queen's Tower from 1957 for fifteen years. Originally owned by Samuel Roberts. The army took it over during the war & Holman Brothers moved there from The White Buildings in Fitzalan Square. A brilliant place to work with its' extensive gardens & fantastic view of Sheffield from the flat roof. We used to sunbathe on the massive lawn during our lunchtimes. It was surrounded by open fields in those days & Park Grange Road was an unmade track. When CompAir (formerley Holman Brothers) moved to Chesterfield it was converted into a private sports centre. Now apartments.
