How do you feel about buying and subsidising West Ham's new stadium?

Spurs' proposal was nothing more than a ruse to put pressure on Haringey Council to get a better deal for a development to remain in Tottenham. Spurs are a north London club and Stratford is east London. Spurs were never going to move to Stratford.

We'll never know for certain, but their proposal should have been put to the test. Either this would have called their bluff and they would have had to slink away in embarrassment, OR London would have been left with a proper athletics stadium, fit for purpose, instead of a compromised add on to a compromised football stadium.

Stratford is in the east, but has good transport links so that would not be a problem.

My preferred option would have been to build a temporary stadium for the Olympics. The "legacy" could be achieved by building a smaller stadium either on the site or a refurb as Spurs had proposed. This should have been allowed for in the original design, instead of feeling a need to retain the Olympic stadium structure. History shows that there is generally not much call for used Olympic Stadiums. Why would the 2012 Olympic stadium be any different, especially when the final use was not sorted during the original design.

is the rental cost going to be more than the cost to make the changes?

No, which is why it is a poor decision (unless WHU pay the difference).

Wasn't the cost of the stadium building taken from Londoners only ?

I'm sure they all had to pay extra council tax to pay for the Olympic venues and the rest of the country didn't...

I think you're confusing the Olympic Games in London with the World Student Games in Sheffield.

Stratford has good DLR, rail and tube links running east, west and south but not north where Spurs fans tend to live. Road links aren't great either as traffic would have to go through Waltham Forest or Hackney on a Saturday afternoon. There's an old railway line from Hertfordshire to Stratford that serves some stations but services would need to be massively upgraded to get thousands of fans from north London to Stratford and back.

Bizarre that Spurs should need any help from Haringey council seeing as they are owned by a tax exile who is the 9th wealthiest person in Britain (when he is here at all).

Premier League football is awash with money, they shouldn't receive a penny from the public purse.

i think its disgusting that the taxpayer has to foot the bill with all the money in football why should we .

its not as though most of us would ever get any benefit from the stadium

then again it is in london and we know that they get everything
