MTheo
Nothing to do with West Ham really, if they build the damn thing they need to have at least SOME idea how to make it pay in the future.
callippo
Orient are one of the oldest teams in London, much older than newbies like Arsenal and Spurs or especially, Chelsea who are like this 20th century test tube baby of a football club. Only Fulham was established earlier. But they never got anywhere. They've never done anything. Even Charlton and Brentford were big clubs once. Orient have always been dire. Only one year in the First Division when they were quickly relegated but at least they beat West Ham while they were up there. But West Ham and Orient are not really rivals like United and Wednesday are rivals even though they are so close. A lot of Irons have a bit of a soft spot for Orient. of course Orient would never have been able to fill the new ground. When they changed their ground to Brisbane Road in 1937, they played at Wembley for a while in the interim. They used to get crowds of only a few hundred in a stadium that probably held 250,000 when West Ham played there in the first ever game at Wembley. They were named Clapton Orient `and a certain guitarist changed his name as a result.Might have been Hendrix. They are the team of the real east end, where all the fans are locals, unlike West Ham with their fake bonhomie, and the bubbles song, lifted from the Public Enemy.
