Legend of Noah's Ark

Recommended Posts

One of the most famous and evocative of all Bible stories.

As recorded in Genesis the first book of the Bible:

God looked down upon the earth he created and saw it become evil and wicked, he came to a righteous man named Noah and ordered him to build an Ark.

And God said to Noah: "Make rooms in the Ark and covert insides and outsides with pitch, you shall make it with lower second and third decks and of every living thing you shall bring 2 of every sort into the Ark to keep them alive with you".

And so it came to pass, God brought forth a great flood, for 40 days and 40 nights rain had ascended from the heavens, all living things were destroyed say for the occupants for the Ark.

When the waters reseeded, God said to Noah: "Bring out every living thing of all flesh that is with you, so that they may bound onto the earth and be fruitful and multiply".

So ends the story of Noah's Ark but for centuries people have wondered, was the story based on fact or was it a legend handed down from generation to generation as a symbolic morality play in a hostel and corrupt world.

Contrary to popular belief, the Bible was not the original telling of the story of Noah and the great flood. In ancient Babylonia and Semeria the same story was recorded thousands of years before the Bible was written.

So, what are your opinions on this myth and what of the theories of its location at Mount Ararat in Turkey?

A short but insightful documentary here...

It says it in the bible and the Quran so it must be true. Personally I think it makes God look a bit of a spoilt child and I couldn't worship him after he did this no matter how pretty rainbows are. If people still want to worship a purveyor of mass genocide, that's their call. After all, people still idolise Tony Blair and George Bush.

But who were the Nephilim?

"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown."

Now that makes a lot of sense.
