Chris_Sleeps
It's an hypothetical. You want marriage to be "in the child's best interest". That opens many subjective avenues. An easier one for you. Mr A and Mrs B have a child. Baby C. Mr A dies in a car crash. Later in life, Mrs B falls in love with Mrs D. She should marry Mrs D because marriage is in the best interest of the child? Or she shouldn't marry Mrs D, because the best interest of the child isn't important and marriage should only be between a man and a woman? El Cid
She should marry Mrs D because marriage is in the best interest of the child? The best interests of any child is to have parents of both sexes. ---------- Post added 29-05-2013 at 14:55 ---------- Preferably the biological parents. That is why we have marriage, it doesnt always work that way, but that is the prefered outcome.

This is catered for via a civil partnership providing equality for partners the same as with married couples. What this argument is about is defining what marriage means to most people which is the union of a man and woman. If homosexual couples are dissatisfied with the civil partnership title why not invent a new name for their union ? Different but equal in every way. El Cid
Not equal. Gays can't marry. I did notice a politicain on TV calling marriage, I think, a civil marriage; not far to go.
harvey19
Not equal. Gays can't marry. But in many peoples view same sex couples do not qualify for the union of marriage. This is very different to not being equal.
