IDS reckons he could live on £53 a week. Currently on £1581 a week.

Recommended Posts

It's slowed down to less than ten thousand signatures an hour now.

Pretty high proportion of people still awake at this time.

I think the message most people are getting is that it is a tad easier to survive on unemployment benefit if you are married to a Barons daughter.

You just gotta love mass media.

Well, I do at any rate.

1. Smith provokes hilarity (and a good deal of tooth gnashing, wailing etc) claiming he could live on £53 a week, after being challenged to do so by a random member of the public claiming to do the same.

2. Random member of the public proves to be a lying attack dog of the militant left.

3. Smith resigns in embarassment at being taken in, and for dressing up as a giant target for the disaffected and the "antis". Returns to the backbenches for lessons in swivel eyed gobfrothery.

4. Osborne miraculously escapes unscathed as public focuses on bathing in Smith's blood. Receives a pat on the back (or a damn good thrashing ) and a knighthood.

You never know, it could happen.

"The market trader who challenged Iain Duncan Smith to live on £53 a week is receiving three times that amount himself."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/9968031/IDS-challenged-to-live-on-53-a-week-by-man-who-gets-156.html

"Mr Bennett claimed on the Today programme on Monday that he made £53 a week on his stall, sometimes working as many as 70 hours a week. It later emerged however, that he is also in receipt of £200 a month Working Tax Credit and £232 a month housing benefit. Out of that he pays £400 a month rent, plus £190 a month utility bills, including £120 a month gas and electricity, £36 a month water and telephone, insurance and council tax."

That works out at £60 a week after rent is paid, so only just higher than he claimed, it leaves him with £16 a week after his bills are paid.

Soon be 350,000 signatures.

By far and away the biggest impact the "Quiet Man" has had on British politics - many Tories will be wishing he'd been a darn site more quiet on the subject.

Doubt it, most Tories will be glad he's done it.

You can say what you wish on the matter, it's you that's legally liable for what you say.

Can you see IDS seeking damages against a forum poster rather than the original source. It is like blaming a newsagent for selling a Murdoch paper rather than Richard Murdoch personally.i dont think anything libelous has been written as weapons trading is quite legal, assuming BAE obtained the necessary export licence.I do believe there was an issue regarding the firm paying a billion pound bribe to a Saudi Prince in2007.

His claims, if it's possible, are beginning to look even more outrageous.

It’s very clear that he wasn’t saying he could manage on £53 a week whilst doing his job, so quoting his parliamentary expanses has proof he couldn’t manage is a tad silly.

it is symbolic of his spendthrift attitude, and can be used as a proxy for his other spending.

How do you think he regards the low paid who support his policies-with respect or with utter contempt?
