Benefits in Britain. fact and fiction

Recommended Posts

No they haven't, most OAP's in this region have spent the 80's and 90's on strike or on sickness / incapacity benefit.

Really? Or maybe like me they could have spent it working full time, paying taxes, cleaning the house, doing the shopping, washing the clothes, ironing the shirts, cooking the meals, looking after the kids.....

So what to do with the old folk ? Are they to be only judged on the taxes they pay and nothing else ? Would you stop their pensions ? That would thin out the herd.

It does sadly illustrate why they are often so mistreated in hospital. The younger generation doesn't appear to care.

Reduce their pensions by a small amount. The problem would then be solved. We don't have to get rid of pensions completely.

Oh great, now it's pensioner bashing... I hate to mention this but you too will be a pensioner one day - be careful what you wish for...

I will not reach pension age. I'm not bashing pensioners, just pointing out the truth.

If pensions continue to rise above inflation whilst working age people are denied work and social security, then a youth stealing an old lady's handbag will soon be know as a hero, rather than the lowest of the low.

Pensioners haven't put enough in. They take more out than they put in. And they demand more, and plead poverty whilst living in relative luxury.

The vast majority of pensioners will have paid in more than they get out. Unlike doleys. Lets apply one rule for all, you cannot get out more than you pay in, which would be a nice little leveler.

If you apply that rule, you would have to cut pensions drastically and means test all pensions.

I suggest a small 10% cut to pensions. Your suggestion would involve cutting most pensioner's pensions by some 100%.

Yes he will, but with equivalent of £142.70 per week and all his rent, heating, electricity and council tax paid plus free travel, TV License and other bonuses he would be very grateful and wouldn't have the audacity to complain that he's on the breadline.

Nail on head.

Pensioners never funded this lifestyle. If they did pay so much into the system. There would be no government debt. There would be no economic crisis.

Some of them will have pid very much less when the new rules for the £140 pension come into force.

"The reform would be particularly good news for women, who often fail to qualify for the full basic pension because they have taken time out from work to bring up children and have not built up enough National Insurance contributions. Instead it would be based on residency in Britain."

That residency period is going to be far shorter than the 40 years contributions which you have to make (at the moment) to get a full pension.

It will indeed help women who haven't worked long enough to qualify for a full pension and it will ensure that those who didn't arrive in the UK until comparatively late in life will also get a full pension.

Excuse me, but what planet are you on? So now it's pensioners who caused the debt? What about laying the blame at the door of the real culprits, the bankers and the governments?

This is just beyond belief....

39% of those responible are over 60!!

39% are bankers?

If the government get the big Corporations and Companies to pay the tax they owe, we wouldn't have a problem, but instead we continually fight amongst ourselves, blaming one group or another.

The government must be laughing their heads off. This is exactly what they want. We are much easier to manipulate than doing something about the real problem.

Wise up.

There's an important point here for anybody who buys into the idea that everybody should play a part in helping reduce the deficit. The point is that nothing should be off limits and that includes pensioners, buy to let landlords etc... The problem is that pensioners are a large, vocal and well-protected part of the electorate. Landlords have the banks on their side and so are well-protected too. Neither of the main parties will take on these groups. Labour is seemingly happy to slither to the right again and join in the attacks on the defenceless.

The baby boomer generation has taken a lot out of the country.

Don't you ever get bored of replying with "bankers" to every problem we face?
