Chessel Close Murder

Recommended Posts

Does anybody have any factual knowledge of a murder which concluded with a woman's body being left in a gennel between Norton Lees Lane and Chessel Close S8? My Mother and many other people seem to be aware of the above, but the consensus disappears after that.It could be in the 1940's, 50's or 60's.

There is very little further info on the interweb. If possible I am after documentary evidence, not what people think they remember. Thank You

Yes, George Trevor was sentenced to death on 14 March 1947 for killing a barmaid called Mary Pemberton. He went to Armley jail but wasn't hung. They gave him life instead. The victim had been in court the year before for trying to kill her child. Sad times, man.

See, all you got to do is ask Teddy

Been down to the reference library today. The murder was commited 11/12 Jan 1947, George York found guilty , and was sentenced to hang on 14 March 1947, with recommendation for clemency. As Teddy said, later commuted to life imprisonment.

Case solved
