chem1st
With the bedroom tax, there are now many people willing to downsize. Pensioners are not affected by the bedroom tax. A pensioner can move from a 1bed flat to a 3bed house and housing benefit will cover the rent. A neighbour of mine has recently reached the female retirement age and he is now able to claim pension credit. He is now upsizing. This will free up a property for a person to downsize. The bedroom tax is having an unintended consequence. Some people are actually moving into houses with extra spare rooms, and benefits pay the rent. (If you are affected by bedroom tax, it might be worth swapping with a family in need of larger accommodation, but it also might make sense to swap with a pensioner) Is this fair?
