Margaret Thatcher Thread - Read the first post before posting

She never went to war but was happy to send men to their deaths for her own glorification.

She cut out the heart of our country, promoting avarice at the cost of those less fortunate.

She followed her convictions with no regard for the majority of those living in this country, only to further feather the nests of the super rich.

Sadly, she was the most effective leader this country ever had. She changed the mindset of the country. She killed compassion. How ironic that she abused Francis of Assisi's purely altruistic words when she came to power.

And loved by those who believe on stamping on others in their rush to get to the front.

But sadly, less heart.

She snatched milk from children's mouths and she condemned thousands of working men to a life on benefits.

We have more of the same and have only had more of the same since she left power - feathering their own nests whilst the gap between the richest and the poorest grows ever wider.

I shed a tear today. It was not for the passing of Thatcher. It was for the passing of my beautiful country, as it used to be. A country where we cared about the least fortunate and felt they deserved dignity, and where greed was not considered a 'virtue'.

Every word you say is true, the sad thing is that so many people now live by the I'm alright Jack way of thinking, this has now divided the working class and is the out come of the Thatcher years.

Cripes that brings a tear to a glass eye. She did win 3 elections, free elections by pretty substantial majorities. Also worth noting is that in 13 years labour did absolutely nothing to reverse any of it - mainly because the majority (thats the national majority not the majority of your mates) don't want to go back in time. Neither does the rest of the world - most of Europe is closer to post thatcher uk than it does pre thatcher uk. If she (and her european contemperies)was that wrong there would be lots of socialist countries in the eu.

To my knowledge, there isn't.

She never started a war but new how to end one by winning.

She cut out the dead wood of our industrial past.

She followed her convictions with no regard for her reputation.

She was the best leader this country ever had.

She is hated by those who can't understand what its is to lead from the front.

She had more balls than all men in her midst.

Like a parents tough love she made people depend on themselves not others.

She is what this country needs again, not the weak limp fools who govern us now.

Good accurate points. Especially the bold.

The poll tax was just an extension of her other policies.

It all revolved around the individual, not the collective. Everyone was supposed to be responsible for themselves and hang the rest.

I think we all know that doesn't work.

It's clearly sensible that individuals where ever possible look after themselves. The "I can't be bothered so hang the rest they'll just have to pay for me" culture of her detractors is not going great is it?

No. But as anyone who works in a team will know, two heads are better than one... and three are better than two.

That is the basis of a lot of human advancement. Mrs Thatcher and her cronies threw a lot of that away. The direct consequence is the "I'm all right Jack" culture that afflicts our country.

You really can't do it all alone. There is such a thing as society. Collective action is often a good thing.

She managed to fool generations and is still doing. Working class people who bought their council house at crazy fool prices, and some who'd got a couple of hundred quid of shares from Sid, suddenly thought they were on the up because they thought they were better off than the people living next door, and couldn't see further than the end of their nose! As I said, I can't deny she was effective. Those thirty pieces of family silver certainly bought a fair few votes, didn't they?
