Uptowngirl
Interesting reading - I'd love to read the actual documents that show how she tried to stop the cuts. Interesting, too, that Wilson's govt had cut free school milk first, to older children (no Wilson Milk Snatcher nickname, eh? Not so catchy as Maggie Thatcher Milk Snatcher!). Interesting, too, that despite the cut, many LEA's ignored it or found other ways of not implementing. Funny how perception and reality are often poles apart. The truth gets in the way of embitted prejudice, so it is ignored, distorted or just made up. I guess it makes it easier to keep on loathing. And far more pits closed and miners made redundant under Wilson than Thatcher. I think in some folks eyes if those cutting jobs and services wear red rosettes it is something to turn a blind eye to. Mister M
Just a thought ......... How many of those people in Goldthorpe yesterday celebrating Mrs Thatchers death have actually bought their houses through the ' right to buy scheme ' ? I personally know of several ex miners who have. Hypocrisy or what ? Why is it hypocrisy? I believe it was the Labour Party in 1959 that proposed local councils be allowed to sell council houses, while allowing them to use the recipts to build new ones. Perhaps you think it's hypocrisy for Tories who are strongly opposed to trade unions to benefit from the workers rights that they fought for. mikem8634
There was nothing wrong with selling or buying the council houses per se. The problem was in not using the profits to replenish the stock.

Mind you the posting quickly disappeared so I perhaps am not allowed to mention such things.
mikem8634
It's funny and sad at the same time, because it's true. Really? All of it is true? True/cheap and insulting generalisation - it's a fine line.
