Fascism, is it really that bad

Recommended Posts

I clearly saw a badly briefed fascist unable to handle a fairly predictable line of questioning. Paxo doesn't let anyone else do his dirty work. Brons was simply out of his depth.

They were discussing why the BNP did really well in 2010 and then went downhill, the BNP almost went bust in 2012, but that is just a minor detail and it didnt get airtime.

but 2 prominent members of UKIP recently said that the rich should have more votes than poor people, and that people who don't pay tax should not be allowed to vote.

I think they were similarly confused.

Just the same thinking as Maggie with the poll tax. We now force councils to ballot its citizens if they want to increase council tax by more than 1%.

Who should be able to vote?

Remind us all, how "well" did they do?

While you are at it, you can explain their demise too. I always like a funny story.

It would have been good to hear Paxo get the correct story, it could have been interesting, instead of just another news show to insult an MEP.

The BNP have won council seats in the past, but they are just anti the main party votes. The BNP would not be able to get an MP under our voting system, because some are seen as thugs, rightly so sometimes. But they have got councillors elected. That is not because people agree with all their policies; its because the other parties standing were rubbish.

Why have the BNP won seats in Labour areas, and not Conservative areas?

I think you might struggle to categorise somebody associated with the English Democrats and the BNP as left-wing.

Yes, fascism is unacceptable.

Isn’t protectionism left wing, Thatcher wanted globalisation, old labour at the time and the unions wanted protectionism, BNP want protectionism. BNP policies look more like old Labour policies.

Because the BNP appeals to the supporters of old Labour.

days ago, when the story broke, they wheeled up some political scientist airhead on Radio 5 who said that, yes it is probably possible to be a fascist and yet not a racist. The original Italian fascist movement, did not have a specific racial 'enemy' same way, the German National Socialist movement did. But even he said, that would be unlikely.

there have been fascist movements in the likes of Austria, Brazil, China, Croatia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Australia, Canada, Belgium, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, Lebanon, UK, and the USA.

That's without mentioning the AXIS fascists such as Germany, Italy and Japan. All of which, excluding Lebanon and the USA, who still have these movements, where from the 30's to mostly the late 40's. People from back then where more racist, we all have or had the grandparent/great aunt or Uncle with rather outspoken views. Views that are no longer acceptable.

However, Fascism is authoritarian nationalism, and nationalism is not a giant leap from racism.

I am anti globalisation, I recall a small tax on supermarkets being one of the BNPs policies. I would favour a tax system that favoured smaller shops, multinationals not paying their taxes, I am sure we have all read about that.

I know some people dont think the smaller parties have policies, but its not just the main two parties that people agree with.

If you value individual liberty then yes, fascism is really that bad.

People do use the word quite liberally (excuse the pun) these days. But theoretically any ideology that advocates a monolithic, intervening state could easily find itself on the road to fascism, even if its advocates claim the state will act "in the peoples' best interests". Mmhmm, really.

Absolute power corrupts etc...

Problem is in this country, we've gone too far the other way. You seem to be able to run around doing what you want! Burgle a few houses, mug a few people, it's all ok. If you don't mind being bailed countless times and a little 6 month holiday now and again in one of our luxury prisons you're sorted! Should be like America 3 strikes and you're never seen again!
