You can make sure by using a hard-copy form SIM [search fee £4]; that also involves HMLR looking at index map plans, so it's more accurate. Is it easy to find the owner of a plot of land? Yes, as long as: a. it is registered; and b. it has a postal address (or you can submit a plan clearly showing its location; HMLR prefers OS plans).
