Bypassblade
Have to admit, I wondered that too! Disposable socks! ...Unless of course you wear them for a few months, and they walk away of their own accord!...ewwwww Not sure if an urban myth, but Elton John is supposed to wear a pair of socks once only, then get rid. He also pays a fair whack for a pair of his socks.

alchresearch
I thought everyone knew this one .... Socks are only larvae and they eventually metamorphose into the adult phase, which is a metal coat hanger. Which are always mating, and you can never get them apart! El Cid
The record is 12. You must be very organised if you count how many single socks you have.
Jeffrey Shaw
A bit like the wire fairy , who comes in the night and wraps them all up tangled and in knots. A relation of the paperclip-fouler? And the rubber-band knotter?

Steptoad
Socks are like people, some pairs mate for life, others stay together for a while then go seperate ways and some just like to have a bit of time on their own.. Try adding a table spoon of salt to the washing water, i find this helps.
