Harleyman
That's an average figure per day in the USA, from a reputable source. By my reckoning that's 210 people a week murdered by firearms. Suicides by firearms run at 53 a day, 371 a week. Shocking though the tragic events in Boston undoubtedly are, these figures represent a massive and ongoing tragedy being played out across the states day by day and week by week. It's time for politicians with courage to stop running scared of the NRA and start to take real steps the tackle this epidemic of murder and suffering. Source - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/16/murders-shootings-and-gun-sales-per-day_n_2488664.html Gun control will not stop it. There are many other sources where firearms could be obtained if gun control were to be passed and there is absolutely no system in place to effectively control weapons anyway. Not with a population of over 300 million and the size of the country It's basically people who have a propensity for violence, people with grudges to settle, mentally unstable or troubled people, common criminals. Mind control ! Now that's a workable solution. We all get brain scanned and with the technology available it will be possible to identify those whose brain "makeup" (for want of a better word) show a tendency for any of the above named to be treated by bombarding their brains with waves of love chemicals or in severe cases a complete lobotomy ---------- Post added 21-04-2013 at 18:33 ---------- Why pick out the USA? There are far more murders in Mexico. Indeed on the entire American continents (north & south) there is probably only Canada that has a lower level of murder and violent crime than the USA. Don't any of the others fit the case you are trying to dream up about the USA and gun possession? It's a tired old argument from the point of view that what works in the UK could work just as effectively in a country like the US

We are bombarded almost daily by the media with statistics of all kinds for what purpose I've never really understood. Are we supposed to drop on our knees, wail out aloud and tear out our hair? There's nowt to be done about it. We just get on with our individual lives, deal with our own little problems and challenges and try to do the best we can
