stereolab
Just another veiled attempt at suggesting that if we celebrate our national day we're racist, total bunkum, HAPPY ST GEORGES DAY to one and all. But it's not our 'national Day' and never has been. There is no great tradition of celebrating in the same way people do with st Patrick's days. Even that is a relatively modern idea, and isn't really much more than a Guineas promotion. If people want to celebrate it fair enough, no one in their right mind is suggesting you can't. El Cid
Your signature suggests you're xenophobic and probably racist. What does you jumping to such conclusions say about you? What does being racist mean, to you?

Chris_Sleeps
He says we need to reclaim it but he's the one making the connection to the far right. There is a connection. What's ironic about it? Irony is using a foreign man who never came to England as a symbol of English patriotism. Still not found out why old George killed that dragon yet either. melthebell
Still not found out why old George killed that dragon yet either. By chance he travelled to the city of Silene in Libya, which, at the time, was being terrorised by a ferocious sea-dragon. The inhabitants of the city had, under the king's command, given their children to be consumed by the dragon until finally the time came for the king's own daughter to be sacrificed. George, however, intervened, promising the king that if they were all baptised he would slay the dragon. The king did as he was told, George killed the dragon and everyone was saved from link above

If people want to celebrate it fair enough, no one in their right mind is suggesting you can't. St George is the Patron St Of England, ergo our day, people seem to forget that this is our country and are forever trying to pussyfoot round not trying to upset anyone. Nobody else is bothered they don't get upset, trust me they get more upset when things are stopped as the excuse of upsetting them is used, we all have to live in harmony. I accept their holidays and what ever no matter what race colour or creed, it's is our national day. I don't know why it's not celebrated more but that the English for you, they'd rather have St Paddy's Day, or Australia Day which was 1st populated by our convicts.
