Osbornes medicine is working!

I think politicians are filth, they are generally dishonest and self serving at the expense of the people they claim to represent.

We need a new politics with a way to vote them out at anytime for no confidence, there's far too many wrongs going on with impunity for privilege.

As for the flag waving comment it is apparent that people will just follow without questioning, even to a point that they can't/wont see what's in front of them it's toe curling to see adults with such childish devotion, it's ridiculous.

We would be asked to vote every week because there will always be someone a little peeved at something the government is doing, and since it requires a majority to elect them it would surely require a majority to sack them.

I wouldn't say that politicians are filth. But ther is a dishonesty and infantilism in politics which is dispiriting

I'm not a Tory but Mrs Thatcher certainly knew who her supporters were, and rewarded them!

I just wished Labour were as clear in that respect!

You are actually nearly correct. Labour did know who thatchers supporters were and did reward them.

The credit crunch was, in my opinion, the responsibility, in this country of Blair and particualrly Brown. I do not see how you can blame Thatcher, she was out of power for many years before the credit crunch.

It's all their fault, as well as both Bushes, Clinton and many others, not least the hedge funds and the banks. If you track back the roots of the credit crunch and financial crash are in the late 1980s with deregulation of financial markets and a shift away from lending against assets towards highly leveraged (debt-based) investment (gambling, essentially).

I understand the points you make. I think it is unlikely that people will accept lower standards with equanimity. I suppose what none of us is really addressing is the fact that if people feel that they are being unfairly dealt with this could lead to destabilisation and ultimately violence. An overcrowded world with less resources to go around and a capitalist system unchallenged and unregulated is a dangerous cocktail.

It has to be done fairly and that is a problem. Our system is increasingly driven by inequality and the dangers with pushing that further should be clear. Quite simply the neo liberal globalist experiment needs to end and be replaced with something better and fairer.

All these people complaining about a slow economy as forced Osborn’s hand, he as now decided to extend the help to buy scheme to include buy to let, in an hope to stimulate the property market and economy.

Another property bubble that should get the economy moving.

I note in newly(ish) socialist(ish) France unemployment has reached a record level. Up 11.5% on a year ago. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22301063

Just sayin....

Hollande hasn't got a clue. I'm talking about something that is fairly close to the Green party economic policies but with the stupid impossible to achieve eco crap taken out.

Read up on Citizens Income. It's actually a very neat idea - a safety net for all with a massively simplified benefits and personal tax system.

1997 worst ever, eh?

I was just finishing my national service that year, and finally able to draw a final line under my residency there. Thx for reminding me why... ;)

Still not found a bookie to give me odds on Hollande not finishing his term (been looking a fair while, as well). There's growing talk of civil unrest/disobedience (as in, vastly more than usual :D) and this week's LePoint had a cover asking whether France is again at the 1789 'juncture', with Hollande photoshopped as Louis XVI.

I was just over at Easter, and it's getting proper grim in many quarters and respects - wasn't surprised one bit at Hollande's 26% approval rating (...rather, I was surprised it was still that much!)
