Crews extinguished the flames in the building on Gayton Road, Pitsmoor, at 7pm on Tuesday. They were also called to the same spot on Saturday night when another blaze was reported. A police investigation into both fires is underway. Firefighters were also called out to a blaze on Fenton Way, Rotherham, on Tuesday after a pile of rubbish was deliberately set alight. And at 1.15am yesterday they dealt with a Ford Mondeo found burning on Drakehouse Lane, Beighton, Sheffield although the cause is not yet known. Anyone with information about the council depot fires should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
JemmaGurney
I contacted building control after the fires, they have been in contact with the new owners to secure the site. Apparently they have also recommended so demolition contractors to them, so I'm guessing it'll come down at some point. There is a series of street meetings going on at the moment for the Scott Road area, with councillors and police representatives present. See here: burngreavemessenger.org/archives/october-2014-issue-114/residents-meeting-for-the-scott-road-area/ I haven't been, but a friend reports that they have worked well for the streets where a sufficient core of residents have turned up (she's on Kirton Road). The next one is tonight (21 Jan), I'm guessing also at St Peters. Jemma
