Food Banks in 2013?

Recommended Posts

Amazing given we are, still, one of the richest countries on the planet.

It all depends on the distribution of that wealth.

Look at the city centre..bookies, pawnbrokers and shops selling massive tellies for just £5 a week for the rest of your natural.

You could divy up all the money in the country equally and by next Wednesday there would be people turning up at the food banks for something to eat while watching how their bet goes on over on Sky Sports 9.

There are serious issues about how our economy is balanced, but those who just sit and take having slightly less chucked at them isn't one of them.

Well, having seen various news stories lately regarding the sudden insurgence of food banks in the UK.

Do you use them and where abouts in Sheffield are they, what criteria do you need to reach to be able to use them.

I am staggered that considering we are meant to be one of the most developed countries in the western world and the year is 2013 :loopy:

Surely in this day and age, with the entire worlds resources at our fingertips, we should have eradicated hunger and poverty decades ago.

Sudden?

I live in 2 of the richest countries in the world.

There are always people in any country who will need food and who will need food banks.

Why are you surprised that there are people in Sheffield who need food?

Please help them.

Find a food bank near you and give them any spare food you've got.

Look in the back of the cupboard and if it's not out of date and you're not going to eat it, don't let it go to waste.

Please.

Well, it's George "Grub Bank" Osborne's skillful management of the economy isn't it?

I do hope that they limit the amount of times someone can use a food bank, and ensure that the food isn't from the 'taste the difference' or 'select' ranges. I also hope that those who use them are given lectures by the staff on budgeting as well.

It really pains me to think that people are getting food for free when I've got to pay for mine

Agree totally, there should be a strict criteria and people will only take advantage of it.
