altus
It works both ways Roche as with LeVell even if found completely innocent of any crime will still have that smear against them, and to say otherwise is ludicrous,is that fair ? That's an argument for keeping the identities of those accused secret until after they've been conviction, not for not prosecuting them because a long time has passed since the alleged offence. Suffragette1
Obviously I do (I feel like I'm repeatimg myself here) So why has the nation come forward as one, after so many years? Thousands of people have made complaints against so many different people. Because of the 'Savile effect', survivors have been inspired by the fact that others have been taken seriously and believed. They have found the courage to come forward as it is an incredibly difficult thing to do, make no mistake. ---------- Post added 01-05-2013 at 13:57 ---------- That's an argument for keeping the identities of those accused secret until after they've been conviction, not for not prosecuting them because a long time has passed since the alleged offence. Quite. Every allegation should be investigated. I don't see why sex crimes should be treated differently in this respect from other crimes, when other crimes are committed, the suspects are often named prior to arrest, or certainly were pre-Leveson. IMO it has also brought some chancers out of the woodwork too. Because of this, every new allegation should be done in the strictest confidence and NO names should be released by anyone. geared
When a persons income and reputation are based on the integrity of their name then you can understand the case for anonymity until they are prosecuted. If they are found guilty then obviously they should be paraded in front of the media while they are thrown in jail. but if they're innocent then are they just expected to try and piece together their life and career like northing happened? Just Sarah
You obviously haven't a clue (as foxforcefive states) what it is like to be the victim of a sex crime, the obstacles in reporting and being believed, never mind securing a charge or a conviction, especially when it involves someone well known. Disclosing sexual abuse/rape years later is the norm. Obviously it is you who hasn't got a clue. Have you ever been raped? I have and ive had to live with it for the last 10 years. I reported him right away and he was arrested and hes still in prison. Why on earth would i have waited one second let alone 40 years to report this vile act upon my person? I have real difficulty believing some of these allegations. Undoubtedly some if not most will be true but some just smacks of something sinister. Glennis
But Roache may not remember and he will face the same questions ,to pin any particular date down after 30 years is going to be very hard to remember, how does that make the point pointless ? It will be for him - he was refered to as cockroache at one point Vile man
