RootsBooster
Is it possible to drill and tap a thread cutting tap? I have a tap and i want it drilling and tapping 5/8ths UNF at the square end so i can attach a slide hammer to it. Not using any conventional (or affordable) methods. Taps are hard and brittle, even if you somehow miraculously managed to tap and drill it, it wouldn't withstand the effects of a slide hammer. What is it that you'te trying to do, exactly? 1960boy
A plain bush for a camshaft.
RootsBooster
A plain bush for a camshaft. You know, if you're in need of advice, you could be a little more specific. Are you talking about a camshaft in a combustion engine? By "plain" bush, do you mean a bearing?
1960boy
It's definately a bush, for a brake camshaft.
RootsBooster
It's definately a bush, for a brake camshaft. If you think you can make a little more effort with the details, I'll have another look at this thread tomorrow. I've had a long day and the guessing game routine isn't my cup of tea right now
Michael_W
You would struggle to drill it, I assume its a HSS tap, a carbide drill might get into it but I doubt very much that you could tap it .... never seen it done !
