AngryDog
just wot i was thinking angrydog .would it make any difference taking air filter out? No, it needs this. It could even be an air fuel meter fault (if it has one) or injector leaking issue). Best thing is to take it to a diesel engine specialists. El Cid
I dont buy deisel myself, because I drive a company van, but could you buy a tank full of Ultra low sulphur diesel or bio-deisel. Perhaps someone with more knowledge could comment?
tony2
if running rich just remove air for mot, the filter restrict the air flow a bit, this trick should lower or emission, better still just skip £20 to tester and tell him to put pipe on floor and not exhaurst
shand1
Could be a problem with egr valve or turbo wastegate actuator, both of these can cause black smoke. Also.. check the pipes between turbo & engine for leaks.
Gleadly
its also had a full service a week ago, been trashing it for two days now, still the same out come, could it be possible to turn the mixture screw down if its runing rich? only puffs black smoke out on hard acceleration Take it back and ask them to sort out the problem. If I had a car recently serviced, I'd expect it to pass the MOT a week later, unless they told you there was a problem.

There was another, similar topic, on here recently. Not much point in having a modern car it it's so difficult to diagnose a problem. Thought that's what these in-built computers were supposed to do, if it has one. Give me an Austin Cambridge any day.

I don't know which garage you use, but an emissions test isn't usually part of a service on most cars
AF Removals
I don't know which garage you use, but an emissions test isn't usually part of a service on most cars They have to on all cars now. & just because it doesn't smoke doesn't mean it's right. I had my old pump turned up & it smoked like crazy but passed the emitions test by miles. As for CATs don't do that much for old diesels
