Lets see what the Champion Tariq Rashid had to say about his impending challenge:

We caught up with Tariq relaxing after a padwork session.

AFK-Superleague

AFK-SL :

You are about to participate on the AFK-Superleague. How do you feel about this?

Tariq:

Excited. The AFK-SL is my favourite show to fight on by far. I've been fighting on this show for a long time now and most of my memorable fights were on this show.

AFK-SL :

Tell me about some of your memorable fights Tariq?

Tariq:

They were all hard scraps brother!

Dale Dransfield was a hard fight and i just lost by split decision he hit me hard and i hit him hard and we kept throwing leather at each other. Just a proper old fashioned tear up.

Matthew Garrod came in heavier than he should have done. He was heavy handed but his kicking was terrible , he kicked me in the groin a couple of times as well. When i won he wasnt happy with the decision.

Your very own Tanny Akhtar was difficult, he just wouldnt stay still and attacked from the strangest angles i'd ever seen. I knew my only chance was to close him down and i only lost by one point.

Then there was my leg break incident when i won the -81kg Amateur title.(laughs) and of course my 4th Round defence against the very tall Neil Burgoyne.

AFK-SL :

You used to fight out of Primal Gym but have recently relocated to Spirit Dojo. Is there any reason for the change?

Tariq :

I was living in Grimsby an as you know im a Muslim by faith.

Now ive always wanted to live my life as a muslim and follow islam but in Grimsby , my choice of company kind of made that impossible (laughs again).

I spoke to a muslim brother at the show where i won the title and he told me that his life was not dissimilar.

This inspired me so i relocated to live near family in Nottingham where there was a mosque and i could hopefully have a fresh start.

AFK-SL:

How is the training at Spirit Dojo?

Tariq :

Mostly the sparring is awesome. I get to spar with Paul Semtex Daley , Dan Fraser who has fought on AFK-SL before amongst many others.

AFK-SL :

Which fighters stick out in your mind on the AFK-SL ?

Tariq :

Ant Stuchbury from AFK is awesome! real KO specialist, i hope to be like him someday.

Adam Hadfield from Barnsley is unreal . I cant get my head round how fast the guy can move. Now you see him now you dont (laughs again).

David Paddison, his ju jitsu is awesome , No bias just because hes my coach.

Rich Taylor, very tough MMA Fighter with some Super slams!!!

Ben Cairns from Legions. Ive only seen him fight for a few seconds as it was a quick KO but I hope to see him fight again.

AFK-SL (with a grin) :

What do you know about your opponent.

Tariq (ponders) :

I know hes called Simon Herbert and he looks really big and strong. I also know that he beat over 3 rounds someone i stopped in 2. (shrugs)

Other than that im going to just try my best and see what happens.

AFK-SL:

Good luck Champ.

Tariq :

Thanks Brother.
