I1L2T3
There is no policy crisis, this is just something peddled by the press who don't want to upset the status quo. They have policies, but that doesn't mean they're written in stone for eternity. Policies will change between now and the General Election, it will do in all parties, and in all parties there will be vigorous debate about policy change. Adopting policy from think tanks is nothing new either, all the big parties are influenced by think tanks, half the time the top politicians are making speeches for think tanks. Papers are just reporting what is being said internally by UKIP. Having to pay think tanks too! They can't even think things up for themselves. Populist buttons pushed? Check. Other policies? Oops, somebody get on the phone. Unless they sort things out their policy set will not stand scrutiny.
AdamSmith
Do students not pay VAT? Vat is purchase tax not tax on earnings and anyway they pay the vat from the grants that taxpayers pay for !
I1L2T3
Vat is purchase tax not tax on earnings and anyway they pay the vat from the grants that taxpayers pay for ! VAT is still a tax. It all ends up with the exchequer. Students borrow money these days. They don't get grants.

Your knowledge is seriously out of date, but I see that you do concede the point about students not paying tax.

Gosh paying think tanks! I wonder how much changes hands between Labour and the Fabien Society. Why criticise things for being populist, what is wrong with appealing to the interests of ordinary people?
