Tory co-chairman denies calling Tory activists swivel-eyed loons!

Recommended Posts

I see they are still getting their knickers in a twist about gay marriage.

"In a letter delivered to Downing Street, 34 past and present local Conservative Party chairmen urged the PM to drop the same-sex marriage bill."

If this is what the Tory associations in the Shires are most bothered about then they really are swivel-eyed loons.

The Telegraph is using UKIP to put pressure on Cameron to move to the right. They're ignoring the fact that Cameron is part of a coalition and can't move to the right as he doesn't have the votes. The article about Tories defecting to UKIP because Cameron isn't right-wing enough is just part of the pressure.

There was a Tory on Radio 4 this morning talking about why he opposes gay marriage. He didn't have much of an argument apart from saying that things have been as they have been for centuries and therefore they can't change. Then there was an article about the Church Of Scotland beginning to accommodate gays. If Scottish Christians are more tolerant than some Tories and UKIP then that is a bit of an indictment.

The rise of UKIP is going to damage the Tories and may not actually strengthen the right in British politics. They are so socially illiberal - anti-abortion, anti-gay, bring-back-the-50s - that their appeal is going to be limited and if they destroy the Tory Party then the right will just be little more than a pressure group calling for the clock to be turned back and nothing more.

It could happen that the Tory Party splits in two with some going off to UKIP and others forming an alliance with the Lib-Dems.

Would be quite something if the UKIP effect caused splits in the other three main parties.

Farage has been quick to capitalise on the 'loons' slur and taken out an ad in todays Torygraph, urging grassroots Tories to ditch the Cons for the real thing, Ukip.

The Conservatives are looking more and more unfit to govern by the day, how long before Smarmy Dave has to face-down a leadership challenge?

They're both share the same surname, Feldman - I wonder that's why journalists made the link between Marty Feldman and the 'swivel eyed loons' comment

Be careful what you wish for, we could end up with someone like Gerald Howarth or John Redwood as prime Minister :gag:

Not sure about activists, but after Norman Tebbitt's incredible outburst about Gay marraige leading to a "lesbian queen and artificially inseminated heir", and "that the legislation could allow him to marry his son to avoid inheritance tax" makes me believe that some of the high command of Tory party are swivel eyed loons.

Unbelieveable!

If one of the first things he thinks of when confronted with the idea of gay marriage is "Ooh, I could marry my son to get away with inheritance tax" then he is in need of serious help.
