Proposed NEXT store Public Inquiry

There already is free parking in town on Sundays. Or there used to be.

Nope, not anymore, the council in their infinite wisdom decided that it was no longer a good idea

Parking on Sundays is already less than 10p per hour (£1 for a 12.5 hour day)

You can also park for £2 per day (12.5 hours) monday to saturday in the city centre

You can also park at Meadowhall for FREE .

FREE parking at Meadowhall has lead to a thriving ,successful shopping destination , where as charged parking in the city center has lead to people shopping at Meadowhall. Parking is an importantly issue to shoppers who drive ,and Free parking makes all the difference. Shame the council cannot understand this simple but fundamental issue.

According to people in Middlesborough, free parking is not the be all and end all.

Its a lovely gesture though.

How much revenue does the Sheffield council make from parking from 8am-6pm in the city centre?

Dunno - how many of those spaces would be taken by city centre workers if they were free? Bet you'd be lucky to find an empty space after 8:30.

How come everything in this city boils down to SCC's supposed fictious anti-car policies? :suspect:

The day all the roads and car parks are removed from the city centre is the day you can rightfully accuse the council of being anti car. However, as there are many perfectly usable roads and more car parks than ever before, this accusation does not hold any water and makes those that rant about it look stupid.

so taking parking fares up making the roads difficult to get in to the town isnt a city who is hell bent on letting cars in wake up smell the coffee sheffield council are clueless

How is it difficult to get into town by car? Thousands manage it every day.
