dosxuk
Though there's a few on this list that might be here today if they'd had a gun. According to your list, in the last 10 years, more Police officers have been killed by vehicles than guns. Shall we issue them with tanks too? Irrelevant and a pretty silly comparison to make.
Happ Hazzard
I think London needs more armed police. The rest of the country not so much. I think arming all police officers would be an overreaction.
dosxuk
Irrelevant and a pretty silly comparison to make. Why? If you look through the entire list, there's really not that many who have been shot compared to other causes of death, with vehicles being much higher in the list. Besides, having a gun doesn't mean they would win. The two most recent, the two policewomen in Manchester, wouldn't have had a chance to draw their guns before they were shot, even if they did have them. Arming the Police as a matter of course simply means those criminals who currently feel the need to arm themselves with knives will have to upgrade to guns, resulting in more innocent deaths and more guns on our streets. I'd be perfectly happy to give serving officers a vote on it.

byeo
The problem comes when it turns out they were actually Brazilian electricians. If these brazilian electricians listened to orders they would be still here today... "Armed Police, stop what you're doing, put you're hands up" Nah, i'll run and jump the barriers. chem1st
The government has too much control already. Perhaps UK citizens should be armed instead. It would make MPs think twice about making citizens poorer whilst ensuring they get generous pay rises.
