What is FUNK ? In my opinion, you should rename your night mate ..

The sounds of funk began emerging in the 1960's. It was a sign of the times. The 60's were a revolutionary era with a very unsettled feel. It was then that the Vietnam War was being fought, and black leaders were pushing the idea of civil rights. People across the nation were aware and involved in the protests to allow rights to every person regardless of color. This explosive environment is what musicians of the time were experiencing, and what they ended up expressing in their music. To some funk "is the soul of all Black music, past, present and future." An authority on funk said that "funk is probably the most positive expression that we have had in a long time, not only about our music...but ourselves as a people. Funk epitomizes the successful end to the civil rights struggles of the 1960's and signaled the dawning of a new beginning for Black folks in the 1970's." The upbeat and rich sounds of funk produced a feeling of positive strength, power and humanity in the black community.

The first funk record to be released was called "Outta Sight" by James Brown in 1956. He moved music in the funky direction and soon became known as the "Godfather of Soul." His music moved people to dance and to listen to his message. Brown had always tried to help blacks. He recorded a song that supported the Black Power movement called "Say It Loud (I'm Black And I'm Proud)". The song became very popular in the Black Power movement. It was an anthem that showed black pride and defiance.

Funk is special, because it defines an era and a culture. It's a piece of history that can be listened to over and over again and sound just as good as the day is was recorded. Some other famous funk artists are P-Funk with George Clinton, The Meters, War, and Earth, Wind & Fire. If you get the chance, take a listen to some of them. It will broaden your horizons to new music, and will fill your soul with funk.

Well .. the above is true FUNK !

Well its certainly true that if there was a musical trading standards - they might have words to say about Acid Ted being called Funk - but I cannot imagine anyone is being duped - I think you can guess what the music will be like from the line ups & it is quite a groovy name...

What funk c.d.did you lift that fantastic piece from?? All very good and correct, and if you do want to listen to some rare and heavy funk, come down and check upstairs. If the "The Wall of Balls" dont play enough funk for you, i will give you your money back.

I agree "Funk" is a word attached to many things today. To me, it means music with a groove. A bassline you can't sit down to, a vocal that stays in your head for days. Its a feeling that only some music gives you. Different music for different folks. For me it electronic jackin breaks and techno and breaks.

The sounds of funk began emerging... [continues in this fashion for several million years...]

Mate. We play JB's. We play Neville brothers gear. We play parliament. I could go on. In short, perhaps you should just come down before getting all yada yada about wot is and wot aint funk. The Wall of Balls is nothing but funk.

See you there? If you're laying some funk down, come have a word. We'll see about getting you at a future night, dig?

Audi.

Maybe KSFF should cast his eye to other areas in sheffield. How about the Leadmill ive been there many times and not once has any metal been milled there or perhaps he should consider Coolwax records (In there yesterday and all the records were at room temp)? Or here's a better idea how about come down, check it out and support an underground night in Sheffiled. As the big boss McClean says if its not funky enough you can have your money back.
