flamingjimmy
In the UK the Terrorism Act 2000 defines terrorism as: The use or threat of action designed to influence the government or an international governmental organisation or to intimidate the public, or a section of the public; made for the purposes of advancing a political, religious, racial or ideological cause; and it involves or causes: serious violence against a person; serious damage to a property; a threat to a person's life; a serious risk to the health and safety of the public; or serious interference with or disruption to an electronic system. So to give an example, according to that definition the US led tactics in Iraq 'Shock and Awe' were terrorism? The explicitly stated aim was to terrorise the Iraqi people into giving up support for their government and supporting the US led regime change. It fits every criterion you have listed. flamingjimmy
When you live in constant fear because there are constantly flying robots buzzing in the air above you with lasers and missiles that might kill you in your sleep, are you being terrorised? What would be more terrifying? Living in a country that is constantly being bombed and where people can kill you in your sleep from miles away at the push of a button? Or living in London right now? Hairyloon
Does it ever make sense to give a terrorist what they want? Surely that depends what they want. If they want something sensible that a lot of people want, then it wouild be perverse to deny it just because some terrorists want it. Otherwise we should set up a terrorist network demanding increased taxes.
Super Hans
Although some people would call some Governments terrorists, by definition. In the grand scheme of things, one of the reasons the UK Government went to Afghanistan is because people are killed there on a daily basis at the hands of religious terrorists. The UK went in with good intentions trying to stop people being murdered on the grounds of their faith, now the terrorists are attacking the UK because the UK is trying to stop the terrorists terrorising people in Afghanistan. Of course Afghanistan and many other countries are interchangeable there.
