The game has changed.. is it dawning on people yet?

A change in law to "you pay tax on your company earnings in this country" would soon sort out the whole threat of "we will move abroad" since their only option would be to not sell in this country, and another company would soon fill the space they leave.

Easy words to say but then you don't have to try and enforce it.

OK tell us this. Hyundai make cars in Korea for £4000 each. They sell them through their UK company to the dealers for £6000 each. So they make £2,000 mark up on each car. How much do you think Hyundai in Korea should charge Hyundai UK per car, and how are you going to enforce it?

Yes it would be a problem because the other countries where corporations pay no tax would be our export markets. And the amount a company would have to pay to workers so that workers could meet their tax obligations would be so high no company would pay it. They would just move work to cheaper locations.

Don't they do that now? Ford recently shut down all the Transit van production lines in the UK and moved them to Rumania. For now do not manufacture any vehicles in the UK.

Countries like Macedonia offer companies a zero tax window of 5 years if they move production there.

It's great to demand higher wages all the time until the company can no longer compete with cheap imports and is forced into moving production abroad.

If you read my post I was responding to the idea that the tax burden should fall on citizens. Clearly that would push up wages, a big proportion of which would be used to pay tax. A company needs people on the ground to operate in a country and would be discouraged by punitive rates of personal taxation.

The game hasn't changed at all. I think the OP has just begun to realise what's happening

It really changed in the 70s. We're now seeing the full effects.

Eventually we are just going to have to drastically reduce the scope of public services and tell people and families to fend for themselves instead of relying on the generosity of others.

What generosity? We pay taxes for these services.

Add in VAT and all the other taxes we pay and taxes on taxes and about 60% of our earnings go in taxes.

6+ years on from the start of the economic crisis we seem to be no nearer a solution, but the eventual outcome is at least becoming clearer and can no longer be ignored.

The outcome of excessive borrowing was always very clear, and if it hadn’t been on the news very few people would have even noticed it. Some people might have a little less to spend each week, which in the grand scream of things is a good thing.

The problem is that the vast majority of people don't pay enough tax to cover the cost of the services they use.

And much of the tax you do pay is just wasted by government and the public sector.

What is the alternative? How do people fend for themselves? What replaces all the services that are currently delivered by the state?

And many of them live without clean water, sanitation, health services, education, suffer endemic preventable disease etc... etc...

If you aspire to that move to Mozambique.
