melthebell
Its not about a gender debate. Its about hypocracy between two identical genres of magazines. They are either all banned or none at all. I really dont see how people are differential between the two. What stinks in this entire debate is nobody in the world of supposed "balanced jornalism" has even bothered to question to Diane Abbot or Kat Banyard about Closer, More, Sugar, Cosmo magazines. Prey tell, what exactly is the difference between these two images: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Hln2AEigAz4/SdJaZEADzEI/AAAAAAAASFE/ipAG01tKHZA/s1600/Heat+torso+2.jpg http://www.skinnyvscurvy.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/danielle-lloyd-shows-off-her-bikini-body-in-nuts-magazine-1.jpg Why is one supposed to be acceptable and the other not? Why can one magazine containing these images be sold without a quibble but the other one be banned? the original topic on the tv, and this thread was about feminism and lads mags YOURE the one that changed it into an arguement between 2 types of magazines

Wonder what Kay Banyards thoughts are on a front cover like this http://www.crazyaboutmagazines.com/ourshop/prod_1603589-Heat-magazine-David-Beckham-cover-1925-June-2004-Issue-275.html Or maybe images inside magazines like heat like this http://www.heatworld.com/Celeb-News/2012/12/OMGEEEEEEE-Its-Louis-Smith-NAKED-An-early-Christmas-present-from-heat-to-you/ http://digbyioane.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/digby-ioanes-rival-louis-smith-part-27.html Clearly there is a little bit of hyprocosy going on here. Watson B
How do you define "lads mags"? Im guessing FHM, Nuts, Zoo. Ive not seen a porno mag in a while, do they even still sell them in shops any more i dont know but im guessing if they do then the Razzle, Playboys and ChickswiDicks type porno are in the firing line. So to speak
Suffragette1
the original topic on the tv, and this thread was about feminism and lads mags YOURE the one that changed it into an arguement between 2 types of magazines I think that ECCOnoob would find that many women who are opposed to lads' mags are not avid readers of the women's magazines that s/he cites. Personally, I can't wait for the return of Spare Rib. The glossies and celebrity/gossip magazines are rubbish, banal, superficial and woman hating. They promote women hating and criticising other women's looks, appearances and lifestyle choices and lads' mags are essentially soft porn, sexist, reductionist and objectifying. They're all crap. I agree, they are crap, so I don't buy them, I also don't stand in the shops staring at them, but I respect the rights of those members of our society that do want to buy them. If someone finds them offensive they can choose not to work in the shop or use the shop.

I do support the ban of page 3 though, if men and women want to look at naked breasts, there are plenty of magazines and online sites available for them to do do. It's outdated, sexist and inappropriate and should be consigned to history.
