mr_blue_owl
I grew up in one of the reinforced pre-cast concrete block houses on Wordsworth Avenue between Remington and Monteney. I can not remember ever hearing them referred to as the Malt Houses at the time, however I have seen the term used on this forum. Does anyone know where it comes from? In 1950/51 I was in the first intake into Monteney Junior School and the last of these houses ,near the school, were being erected by a company called Malthouse. Hence the name. Hence the name. Thanks very much indeed Tonio, that explains it nicely. Incidentally 1951 was the year I was born (I was actually an immigrant from Shirecliffe) and went to Monteney Infants in '56 or '57 Cheers Keith
fatrajah
There was a building firm called Malthouses located on Cliffe Field Road in the Meersbrook area of Sheffield. This was in the 1950s.
