Labour apologise for the crisis, kind of

Recommended Posts

I saw shocking levels of waste in the NHS and schools, particularly where IT spending was concerned. The evidence is out there and can't be denied in any way.

What's bothered me most though is the fact that Labour refused to acknowledge their failings since 2010 and are now only just starting to accept some blame.

And are being forced slowly to accept that they would have made the same level of cuts to get us out of the crisis their overspending and waste created.

Very true, I posted this yesterday:

Ed Miliband: Labour would cap social security spending

Ed Miliband is to promise to cap spending on social security so that a future Labour government can "turn the economy around".

And:

Ed Balls: Labour would axe wealthy pensioners' fuel cash

Labour would cut winter fuel payments for the UK's richer older people if they won the next general election, shadow chancellor Ed Balls has said.

And:

Labour 'would not reverse cuts to child benefit'

But the economy is back in growth. The pundits are agreed growth is ahead of forecast. We are in far better shape than the Eurozone which is contracting has unemployment spiraling and debt levels that make our look trivial. On top of that Labour have confirmed they would stick to coalition spending plans for 5 years. I can see a quicky Mecky backtrack to justify all this orthe usual Mecky disappearing act.

Maybe the government is just trying to big up the economy through its ONS quango, ever thought that?

We can always have a laugh at a Mecky post

Perhaps these are in on the conspiracy too

The UK's services sector, which accounts for around 75% of the economy, grew at its fastest rate since March 2012, new data suggests.

The Markit/CIPS Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for the UK rose to 54.9 in May from 52.9 in April.

The UK's construction sector has returned to growth after six months of contraction, a survey has indicated, helped by an increase in the level of house building.

The Markit/CIPS Construction Purchasing Managers' Index rose to 50.8 in May from 49.4 the month before.

The UK’s economic growth prospects have improved according to The British Chambers of Commerce, which has upgraded its forecast for the next three years.

The BCC now expects the economy to grow by 0.9% in 2013, a revision of the 0.6% figure initially predicted.

The business group predicted a strong performance from the services sector, which represents the majority of the UK’s output.

The UK economy will continue to grow throughout this year, with GDP growth expected to pick up in 2014, according to the CBI’s latest economic forecast published today. But while recent economic data have been more promising, clear challenges remain both at home and abroad, the UK’s leading business group warned.

The CBI is forecasting GDP growth of 1% in 2013, unchanged from its previous forecast after official first quarter figures came in line with its expectations. Quarter-on-quarter growth is expected to gather pace gradually. The CBI is forecasting growth of 0.3% in the second quarter, 0.4% in the third and 0.4% in the final quarter of 2013.

In 2014, the CBI is expecting growth of 2%, with quarter-on-quarter growth to range between 0.5% and 0.6%.

There are two bits to this and both need attention going forward.

1. Public spending as a % of GDP should never go above 35%, 40% maximum.

2. There is shocking waste. Even if we looked at services now and imagine they are costing 45% of GDP, with efficiencies the same level of service should be deliverable for much less.

For me there is no reason to cut service levels when waste is so endemic. The waste is what needs to be cut out.

I'm glad for the linked article.

Next week I hope to read Milliband say it was the poorest and weakest that caused the financial crash, and they should be made to pay it all back.

What, that there might be another Vague Boy in alternate universe scouring the internet for biased artcles to chuck at his imaginary opponents :loopy:

I don't think he even understands his own links, when people question the garbage he posts he never comes back and defends it. But that would be too much perhaps to expect from a simpleton from Baaaaaaaaarnsley!

What's worrying is he claimed that "he is always right".

I'm sure he's a nice man but people who think that have either delusions of grandeur, or are overcompensating for something. Who knows
