howden
I would say not, Formation of a profession A profession arises when any trade or occupation transforms itself through "the development of formal qualifications based upon education, apprenticeship, and examinations, the emergence of regulatory bodies with powers to admit and discipline members, and some degree of monopoly rights. Obelix
A profession provides disinterested objective counsel or service for others. Playing poker doesnt seem to really fit that. If you were advising others on how to play poker for money thought that would probably be a profession (called mathematics or psychology depending on just what sort of advice you were getting...) truman
There are professional poker players so I'd say yes it is I think "professional" in that sense means it's what they do for a living as in "professional snooker player, darts player, footballer, golfer etc.etc.
geared
If it earns a decent enough crust then I don't think it matters what you call it. Seen some people get into it and loose their shirt, others take a grand or so from an online tournament - nice little earner!

Do tennis players etc have to pay tax on theirs..?
