Do we have'faith' in government reports. (re heart Surgery)

I'm not sure how anyone else feels, but personally, after the fiasco of the proposed heart surgery closures (ie LGI), I don't have faith that any kind of government committee, or review commission ever reach a fair and equitable conclusion.

Irrespective of the rights or wrongs of condensing heart surgery into fewer, more specialised centres (I'm not qualified to know), the plain fact is....It's been admitted that the decision was based on flawed analysis.

I'm sure others on here, can cite other examples. It certainly doesn't give me a whole lot of faith!

My son had heart surgery in the LGI,so I have naturally had a keen interest in this story over the last few years.

I don't have any confidence at all in the governments handling over this situation.

I also think it was too convenient for the Government that this happened .....

Just days after this happened...

To me (and call me Mr.skeptical) it seemed like someone was trying to slur the LGI,and the good work that has come out of there.

I'm in your camp Pete. There was definitely something 'fishy' going on about the 'alleged' unusually high death rates at the LGI...and if memory serves me right, that was eventually put down to 'flawed analysis'.....But then again, I'm somewhat of a sceptic too. But I feel, with good reason!

Watching things like that "cash for honours" scandal last night doesn't help lol.

The most worrying thing for me,was the calmness of it all, like it was just another day at the office.

I never have, and never will have any trust or blind faith in MP's that are at the very top.

I especially wouldn't trust Jeremy Hunt as far as I could throw him!:D

I'll wager it's not as far as you'd like to either!...hahaha :hihi:

re: the incident that stop surgery, look at it this way. IF the whistle blowers had been correct and the government had done nothing, you would be screaming blue murder at their incompetence.

They made the correct decision in my opinion.

But the whistleblowers just happened to come forward days after the Government got a right royal slap in the face.

If there was an issue, then closing a whole specialist unit down is not the way to resolve it.

Sir Bruce Keogh was given two statements from "anonymous" surgeons, which led to the unit closing down.

As far as im concerned, anonymous people can quite easily be fictional people.

If the figures are correct,it shouldn't take whistle blowers to highlight this problem.
