MonkeyLover
Hope someone on here can give me some advice. We find that when we use our iron, which is fitted with a 13amp fuse in the plug, it SOMETIMES blows the fuse in the mains, and the power to the plug sockets fails, though the lights remain on. This doesn't happen every time, so it's difficult to determine whether its the fault of the iron, or the fault of the socket. The socket is used for the vacuum cleaner and phone chargers etc, and have had no problem with them. The iron is sometimes plugged into another socket in a different room, and also no problems. I just wondered if it was the fault of the iron, or the fault of the power socket. Any ideas? Thank you.
sandie
Hi MonkeyLover, When you say it blows the fuse do you mean the Circuit Breaker at the Main Board and only the sockets loose power. It is probabley the RCD that is detecting an Earth fault produced by a faulty iron, If the lights stay on then your problem is the iron. It would cost you around £15 to have the iron PAT Tested and it is not worth it, just by a new iron. Hope this helps
deaf andy
if it works okay in one room, but not in another, there may be too many appliances drawing too much power from the circuit in that room. if there are no other high-power appliances running, then it probably is your iron. MonkeyLover
Thank you to both of you, it's just what I anticipated really. I'm so glad it is the iron, rather than the supply. Easier to fix!
