Sheffield Grand Prix Cycle Race - Wednesday 24th July

City Centre Cycle Racing will again return to Sheffield on Wednesday July 24th 2013. The 2nd Claremont Sheffield Grand Prix will be the final round of the British Cycling Elite Circuit Race Series and will incorporate the Browns British Cycling Womens National Road Race Series. The evening will be full of action packed cycle racing and provide a great nights entertainment both for the family and cycling fans.

There is no charge to watch the racing unfold so please make your way down to the race village for a great night of elite level cycling including all the top domestic professional teams including Raleigh, UK Youth, Madison-Genesis, Team IG Sigma Sport, Node-4 Giodana and Rapha Condor JLT. Local rider and 2012 winner, Graham Briggs will be racing alongside local favourite Dean Downing. This is one of Dean's targets for 2013 and he would dearly love to win in front of his how crowd. The ladies race which last year was won by double Ladies World Junior Champion Lucy Garner will be hotly contested with all the major Womens teams coming to Sheffield City Centre to battle for the prestigious win. Local rider Jessie Walker will feature and so will her team of Matrix Fitness Race Academy riders. These will be pushed hard by Breast Cancer Care Cycling Team who have Dame Sarah Storey among their riders as well as Penny Rowson who is from Sheffield. Live commentary will start at 6.30pm, ready to introduce the Women's race at 7.00pm. The Mens Elite Claremont Grand Prix race will start at 8.30pm prompt. Final presentations for both races will be around 9.35pm.

The riders will travel anticlockwise around the course and on leaving the start will travel down Pinstone Street, left onto Furnival Gate down to the roundabout and sweep left on Arundle Gate. Riders will turn left at the Crucible Theatre and make their way up Norfolk Street. From here riders will ride on the cobbled section turning right onto Surrey Street before completing 1 full lap which is 1.4kms. The finish area will be on Pinstone Street. New for 2013 is the addition of a race village positioned at the top of Fargate with trade stands and food outlets which will offer refreshments throughout the day.

This year the event headline sponsor, the Claremont Hospital has again stepped up to help support the event with local bar and restaurant Browns supporting the women's race. Support from other local businesses include Harrisons Cameras, BikeBox Alan, Acorn Industrial Services Limited, Onimpex/Bioracer, Bickerton Skoda and Sheffield City Council.
