lara joyce
Hi, i have posted on this before but cannot find my previous post on it! I have a 1987 £10 pound britannia coin. Its in a little presentation box. I had it weighed and it works out about 70 quid in scrap gold value. But i was wondering if it worth more to sell it as it is - a special coin. Does anyone know where i could take it or even its approximate value please? Thanks in advance x
Chris_Sleeps
I'll give you a fiver for it. Fair deal?
wysiwyg
The most recent one that sold on Ebay went for £82.61. Once you've had the hassle of posting it and paying various fees you'd probably be better off taking the £70.

Vague_Boy
But i was wondering if it worth more to sell it as it is - a special coin. While it's worth more than scrap gold value, there's nothing inherently collectible about it. Britannias are produced every year in different sizes (although the £10 1/10 ounce Britannia was only first produced in 1987). The £10 is just the legal tender value (yes, Britannias are legal tender and thus exempt from capital gains tax), the actual value is determined by the current price of gold. Baird in London are currently selling 1/10th Brits at £101. They're actually out of stock at the moment so maybe they'd be a good choice to sell it to? They will offer you a few percent below spot (a price will be fixed over the phone), which is certainly going to be a fair bit more than the scrap gold price http://www.goldline.co.uk/bullionCoinsPage.page
