Electerrific
I remember Michael Wood once saying in his In Search Of series that part of the original Anglo-Saxon Tinsley Wood (Tingas Leah) still exists next the golf course, by the Parkway? Would the oldest artefact be the Anglo-Saxon cross, found where the Cathedral stands today, still in the British Museum? Or even older? The oldest visible part of Sheffield still to be found, the old Brigantes hillfort at Wincobank? Or are the Roman Templeborough fort remains still visible? Nagel
Carl Wark is within the city boundaries as is the hill fort at Wincobank. There can't be another city in the UK with two Iron Age hill forts.
natjack
There's a petrified forest somewhere at Middlewood, but they covered it up again to preserve it. So not strictly visible, although there are pix somewhere. Fossilised trees. http://www.rotherham-images.co.uk/Middlewood%20Fossil%20trees.htm
megalithic
The sites i've linked to are all within Sheffield's boundaries, and far older. Btw, Carl Wark isn't a hill fort, unless you've evidence otherwise.

megalithic
Says it is here? http://www.brigantesnation.com/SiteResearch/Iron%20Age/Carl%20Walk/CarlWark.htm Yeah, but there's absolutely NO evidence it was, none. And who builds a fort with a close by and bigger vantage point over looking it ? (Higgor Tor)
