banjodeano
I was at Castleton at the weekend, and we plonked our bums on a couple of seats outside a cafe (which was empty) and asked the guy for two coffees...the guy didnt want to sell just two coffees and told us that he only sells drinks with meals...and that he turns people away if they dont have a meal...as we got up to leave, he then changed his mind and said he would allow us to have two coffees does anyone else find this strange, i am sure there are loads of cafes about that a more than happy for peoples custom
megalithic
Haha. Given it's Castleton i'm not surprised. I avoid the place, too many people with their noses higher than Mam Tor.
banjodeano
He was a thoroughly unpleasant person, he brought our coffee, and then moaned about how business had been terrible all winter, but that at the weekend he had been selling loads of meals, and was forever hinting that we should purchase more from him...i wished we had taken our custom elsewhere....... as for the coffee, it tasted like the sweepings off the floor :gag: we had a few sips and left it... Castleton just sells Blue John tat, whilst Bakewell specializes in both mass produced cake like stuff and cheap walking gear ... avoid at all cost! (except for the motorcycle museum in Bakewell ) ---------- Post added 15-07-2013 at 23:37 ---------- The only shop i use in Castleton is the one across from the bus terminus. That's a pub isn't it? megalithic
I don't mind Bakewell, much less pretentious than Castleton imo. Can't stand the tart though. Edit: Left that open for a punchline haven't i !

Steptoad
...Bakewell specializes in ... mass produced cake like stuff ---------- Post added 15-07-2013 at 23:37 ---------- I was in Bakewell today and found two stalls selling homemade cakes and pies for a couple of quid, jams and marmaldes for just over one quid. They looked great, and if I wasn't on a diet I'd have stocked up.
