'Decades of austerity needed to cut debt'

Recommended Posts

You are right, and the jobs are there, currently filled by immigrants. This due to the inherent idleness of at least three generations who have been brought up to live off state benefits.

I watched a program about young unemployed people in Britain, they were applying for hundreds of jobs but not getting interviews, this dispels the myth that they don’t want to work, there are over a million young people desperate for work so encouraging more immigrants to come here to work is senseless.

When will people wake up to the reality of the situation, we were conned in the 60s/70s that things were bad, now it's resurfaced just as Shale Fracking is on the horizon.

Wake up smell the coffee or we'll be stuffed again get onto your MPs and ask questions.

Mmmm.... Not sure about this. Can I give you apersonal example of falling crime figures;

A friend of mine's daughter was recently the victim of an unprovoked attack in the street by 3 girls, (this was mid afternoon in the centre of town.) She went to her Mum's place of work and mum patched her up etc.

While she was with her Mum, she saw the 3 girls hanging about outside then going into a pub across the street.

Her mum phoned the police and told them the situation, but it took them 3 hours to turn up, by which time the girls had gone. The police said sorry, there was nothing further they could do.

End of story.

I crime was commited, but nothing was done, and it wouldn't appear in any crime figures. It might not seem important, but those 3 girls now know they can punch people with impunity, and will no doubt continue.

It's a story that's often repeated. Could this be why crime figures are dropping?

As for the NHS. I'd sack one manager and employ 3 nurses instead.

No, you've reported a crime and as such it goes on the figures. They aren't forced to solve them sadly.

The official figures are 5 people for every vacancy, but it's not uniform across the country, some areas are job hot spots and others aren't. Some areas have many more applicants unfortunately, others less.

At the low paid, entry level jobs, the figure rises to 45 applicants for every job.

Print more money, give it to the government rather than the banks, let the government spend it. Worst that happens is inflation & de-valuing the debts.

Well, if you get a crime number it goes on the figures, probably, but not every report does, as the police have to think there's been a crime committed & then record it.

Thankfully we have better statistics for crime.

Which is all very well but folk don't want the jobs that are available hence supermarkets advertising vacancies overseas because no one here wants that type of job. The jobs paying big bucks for sitting around all day are the ones getting lots of applicants.

The young people on the program were applying for any job that was available, many would have loved a job in a supermarket, they just wanted a job and it didn't matter to them what it was.

Perhaps they should have tried here.

http://www.shropshirestar.com/shropshire-business/2011/05/09/welshpool-tesco-jobs-advertised-in-slovakia/

Jobs at a Mid Wales supermarket are being advertised in Slovakia.

Tesco in Newtown is believed to be advertising in the eastern European country for workers at its store in Pool Road. The revelation has angered some Newtown residents who claimed any job vacancies at the store should be filled by people living in the area, and has been branded a disgrace.

But the supermarket giant, which has opened stores in Newtown, Llandrindod Wells and Welshpool in the last 18 months, claimed it was advertising vacancies abroad because of a lack of interest locally.

The company said the measure was a last resort when positions could not be filled within the community.

That story has two sides and is a little confusing, Tesco claim they couldn't fill the vacancies locally whilst residents and councilors say the vacancies should have been advertised locally because there are many local people seeking work. The question then is, was it advertised locally and if so why didn't one of the many unemployed in that area take the jobs.

Its a bit odd that I can't quote someone's post in its entirety just because it as a link.

Or you could ask yourself why we have record numbers of people actually in work at a time when there are supposedly so few jobs around. You only have to go to London where you will struggle to find an English speaker amonst bar staff, hotel chamber maids and supermarket staff.

We get swamped with workers from Poland, Slovakia, and the other less wealthy nations of the EU. These folk wouldn't come here if there weren't jobs for them. There are recruitment agencies in all these countries who are happy to find folks to do the ones that we Brits are too proud to do. It is far easier if folk can recruit locally. If they have to bring in foreign workers they have to find accommodation for them.

Pretty typical

"Based in the town of Targu Mures in Transylvania - a rural area where locals have long been used to travelling in search of work - the tjobs.ro agency acts as a clearing house for all recruitment firms seeking Romanians for UK work.

In the past two and a half years, it has advertised some 81,476 jobs in Britain.

Of these, 16,348 offers were in tourism and hotels, 15,385 were au pair and babysitting jobs, 8,650 were restaurant and catering jobs, 4,169 were in sales, 1,547 in household cleaning and maintenance, and 1,147 in transport, which includes chauffeuring and taxi driving."
