PopT
Every week we walked from Parkside Road School to the Hillsborough baths for our weekly swimming lessons. When we reached Howard's Dairy near Wigfull's shop just below Hawksley Avenue we often saw a Chimpanzee dressed in boys clothes across the road waving to us. I was told his name was Peter and he lived in the Entry house next to the Knitwear shop. Does anyone else recall him and if so I would be very interested to know more about him and his keepers. tiffy
Couldn't find anything on the chimp at all so reckon your best bet would be to use the libraries (see Mick Spick) and check out the local history section.
SolidsSister
That's fantastic. If you find out anymore let us know. I've been involved with a Community History Project in Hillsborough. We are putting a collection of almost 300 images of the area on a website very soon. Check out the http://www.burtonstreet.og.uk. Photos of a chimp would be welcome.
